Summary:
I am a Postgraduate Research Fellow at the Department of Computer Science, NUI Maynooth (CS-NUIM) Ireland. The Research is part of the Strategic Research in Advanced Geotechnologies - StratAG project with funding from SFI. I obtained my Master's in Spatial Information Technology in 2007 from the University of Madras, India. I also hold a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Application(2000-2003).
My PhD Supervisor is Dr. Adam C Winstanley who is the Professor and Head of Department of Computer Science. At CS-NUIM I am involved in various projects with the research group on Geotechnologies lead by Dr. Adam Winstanley. The research group is comprised of myself, a number of PhD students, Dr. Winstanley, and two other senior researchers: Dr. Padraig Corcoran and Dr. Peter Mooney (who also works for the Environmental Protection Agency). I also work closely with other PhD students of our research group which is integrated into the Science Foundation Ireland's STRAT-AG funding (07/SRC/I1168) at the National Center for Geocomputation (NCG) at NUI Maynooth where Dr. Winstanley is a Co-PI.
I am looking at integrating haptic feedback as a modality for mobile GIS/LBS applications to provide location/orientation/distance information to the user.
[Haptic Prototypes]Research Interests
The list below briefly summarises these research interests:
- * Haptic feedback as a modality for pedestrian navigation, knowledge discovery, and/or alert systems
- * Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) and Spatial Cognition
- * Inertial sensors on mobile devices like - accelerometer, compass
- * Location-based Service applications - including pedestrian navigation using multiple modalities(text/color coded/haptic)
- * Volunteered Geographic Information (VGI) in web-based GIS. OpenStreetMap/Google MapMaker
- * Integrate Web 2.0 tools such as Twitter, Facebook, OpenStreetMap, Flickr, etc with location based applications
- * Real-time bus tracking and smart transit systems on web/mobile
- * Simultaneous Localization and Mapping (SLAM).
- * Build android apps involving - GPS,Compass,Accelerometer,Map
