Department of Computer Science

Higher Diploma in Information Technology (part-time)

This is a half-time course primarily aimed at people eligible for funding under the Labour Market Activation Scheme.

Application will be through the PAC on-line system (www.pac.ie), course code MHG71. NUI Maynooth will cover the cost of the application, so students should hit the default payment option. The course is not being run this academic year.

Entry requirements are a degree in any subject (excluding CS or closely related).

At this time we do not envisage us filling all the places available but, if we get more applications than places, entry will be competitively based on first degree results.

The HDipIT curriculum is made up of 12 modules:
Year 1:

  • CS141: Introduction to Computer Programming
  • CS142: Introduction to Computer Science
  • CS143: Introduction to Computer Systems
  • CS151: Discrete Structures
  • CS240: Operating Systems
  • CS261: Multimedia Technology
Year 2:
  • CS130: Databases
  • CS210: Data Structures and Algorithms 1
  • CS211: Data Structures and Algorithms 2
  • CS230: Web Information Processing
  • CS320: Computer Networks
  • CS355: Software Engineering

Each module consists of 24 hours of lectures and about 20 hours of laboratories/tutorials (approx averaging 12 hours in total per week).

Final exams are 2 hours per module held in January and May.
